Responsible 3rd Graders...

We are now off and running! In 3rd grade there are so many new and different skills and learning strategies and the month of September is when we learn them all! I am happy to report that students are settling into the classroom quite well. In Reading Workshop, we have been slowly practicing all the elements of the DAILY 5. So far, we have learned and practiced 'Read to Self,' 'Read to Someone,' 'Work on Writing,' and 'Word Work.' Each part of the Daily 5 includes a lot of independent working strategies. Team 201 has successfully been able to work independently and quietly when they should be, and they are working on using quiet voices and staying focused when working in partners. Writing Workshop has started off with students making lists in a variety of different ways. Ask your child to explain the Heart Map, I Chart, Best & Worst List, and Writing from an emotion. We are making these lists to give us many ideas to choose from when it's time for writing a narrative piece.
